Sunday Steps!

This was a meal that Hubby and I had last Sunday. He was about to leave for a two week training exercise off island, so we decided to celebrate his "last day" with some homemade pizza!

I quickly whipped up my go-to pizza crust recipe HERE. I like it, it works, but I think I am ready to try some new flavors! Maybe something without the seasonings, and some cornmeal....or whole wheat...The Hubby and I both like NY style pizza, but with crust that is slightly thicker and a little doughy. Expect some experiments in the near future!

Well, once you have a dough all made, and it has risen, knock it down and roll it out. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375 F with a pizza stone, or pizza sheet in the oven. While the oven is preheating, make a simple tomato sauce using a small can of tomato sauce and a small can of tomato paste. I also added some onion salt, garlic salt, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt and pepper. It was wonderful, quick, had a kick, and was just the right amount for one large pizza.

Once the oven is done preheating, remove the pizza stone or sheet, and move the rolled dough onto it. Then:

1. Add sauce and spread all the way to the edges.
3. Add your toppings of choice: we used grilled chicken.
2. Add your cheese of choice: we used mozzarella and some parmesan/romano mix. Add a dash of italian seasoning on top as well.
4. Pop it in the oven and bake for 30-45 min. Check it every now and then to make sure its not burning.

Last step: EAT EAT EAT!! ~~~~

Also, while we are on this pizza note. The Hubby and I went to a local pizza joint one night. It was good, for Japanese-style pizza. We liked the crust and there was a good variety of toppings options. There were some pre-made pizzas like pepperoni, 4-cheese, meat lovers....and, get this....they had a curry pizza. Yes, curry pizza. It had a curry seasoned sauce with bacon, corn, and cheese. I didn't try any, but Hubby did and he just said it was "interesting". Alright-y then! lol. Size wise, 1 pizza was enough for 1 hungry person, and it can easily be split and paired with a salad for a wonderful meal.

We had two pizzas. One was pepperoni, peppers, onions and mozzarella. The other was garlic, mushrooms, mozz, prosciutto, and parmesan on top. That one was by far my favorite! I would totally get it again! Oh yeah, Hubby also got his fave: some Orion beer....oh boy! *giggles*

ENJOY!!

Sizzle....Sizzle....

POW!

Can ya guess what this it? Huh huh...can ya!!!  IT'S MY 100th BLOG POST!! Ahhhh! I am UBER excited! Can ya tell!! Hahaha!

I thought that I had missed it by a few, but I went through all of my posts and realized that there were a lot of drafts that I had never actually posted. So, I deleted the ones that I didn't want to post any longer, and voila! This is my 100th post! I made it! -->Happy Dance<--

So, for my 100th post I am going to share with you, not one, but TWO recipes. Two sizzling, hot, and spicy recipes. I can tell its spicy when 1. While I am cooking said item, when I breath in the smoke it makes me choke and the peppers go up into my nose and I can feel the burn, and 2. When my Hubby is eating said food, he is visibly sweating...yeah, he likes his food hot...

Here is Spicy recipe number 1:

~Spicy Beef Curry~
1 lb. stir-fry cut beef
3 carrots, diced
1 yellow onion, chopped
1-2 small green chilies, w/ seeds, diced
2 tsp. minced garlic
2-4 c. chicken or beef stock
5 tbsp. vegetable oil
1/4 c. flour
4 tbsp. curry powder
1 tsp. chili powder
2-3 tsp. ginger
1-2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. ground coriander
2 tsp. salt

In a large pot, heat 2 tbsp. vegetable oil. Saute onion and garlic until softened. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink. Add the carrots and peppers, stir a few times, and then add the stock.
While the mead is cooking, make a roux. Heat 3 tbsp. oil in a med. skillet until warmed through. Over med-low heat, add the flour and stir, cooking until the flour is blended and takes on a pale golden hue. Add curry powder, chili powder, ginger, cayenne pepper, paprika, and coriander. The mixture will be powdery and dry. Take 1/2 c. of the hot liquid from the meat pot and slowly add it to the curry-roux mixture, stirring constantly to form a smooth paste. By spoonfuls, add the curry paste back to the beef mixture, stirring to dissolve. Add the salt.
Simmer the curry for 20-30 min. until the sauce as thickened and the beef and vegetables are tender. While the curry is finishing up, cook some white rice according to package directions. Check the curry a min. or so before serving, if it is too thick, add more stock or water and simmer for a few min. longer. Serve the curry over the rice in a shallow bowl.

The spicy roux

This curry sure did have a kick! I only had a little bit, it was much to hot for me...but my Hubby sure did like it! He was sweating...really sweating when he was done! I guess I did a good job! ;-)

NOTE: I adapted this recipe by combining various curry recipes and researching what made curry so spicy. Its a big hot pot of the "best of" curry, and our/my Hubby's personal preferences....

And...being on a spicy/hot kick, I also made....

~Spicy Turkey Breakfast Patties~
1 lb. ground turkey
3 tsp. chili powder
2 tbsp. paprika
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
1/2 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. dried thyme
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. garlic powder (salt)
1 egg, beaten
1 dried Anaheim chili, diced

Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Mix well. Shape into small disks. Cook in a med skillet over med heat until cooked through, flipping once, about 7-8 min. Place remaining disks on a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze until solid. Remove from pan and put into a plastic baggie. Remove and cook as needed. (No need to de-thaw!)

The spicy ground turkey mix...just look at that color!

These were hot as well! They were really easy to cook up to. When I did cook them and I breathed in the smoke, I got a jolt from all the pepper and spices that were in these...yowza... I served these to my Hubby for breakfast. Serving them as just plain patties, in a breakfast sammi, and I broke a few up and made them into a breakfast burrito! Yummy, yummy!

Restaurant Side Note: One of the first off-base restaurants we tried over here in Okinawa was Cocos Curry House. They make japanese style curry where you can pick your meat, veggies, and other toppings as well as your spice level 1-10 with 10 being the hottest. The first time we went, Hubby started off with a level 5 spice. He said it was alright. Then the next time we went, he bumped it up all the way to a 10! The only difference he commented on was that the heat lingered a lot longer, but it was not that much more "spicy" hmmm..... He later made a comment that my curry was more spicy! That is was better! teheheh I did a little *victory dance* inside. It's good to hear that homemade won over a restaurant!

And what did I get at Cocos? (I'm not much of a curry fan....) I got some garlic naan! It was alright...I think I would have preferred it plain or with garlic in the dough versus cheese and garlic bits on top of the naan...but alas...it met my craving for something starch-y and garlic-y!

RR - The Pit...

BBQ!!

So, when the Hubby and I randomly decided to make a trip up to Raleigh, NC, we needed a place to eat dinner. I had heard of, and even walked by, this place...I think I walked by because it looked closed, or it was an off hour or somethings...little did I know what was inside!

Where we went: We had dinner at THE PIT BBQ. The Pit was started by Ed Mitchell and he specializes in whole hog pit-cooked barbeque. His restaurant has become known in the Raleigh area as one that servers tasty spins on classic southern dishes.

What we had: To start out the meal, we ordered some drinks. Hubby had a seasonal brew and I had some hard cider by the brand name of Original Sin. I like me a good ol' cider every now and then. This one was good, not too sweet. We were also brought a little basket of "munchies" that contained small biscuits and what I believe were hushpuppies. They were alright...slighly over breaded and a little bit too crisp...but man were they good when dipped in the BBQ sauce that was on the table.

Hubby chose the BBQ Ribs for his meal and his sides were cole slaw and sweet potato fries. I decided to stay light, and because I am a sucker for sweet potatoes and cornbread, I had the sweet potato skillet corn bread.

What we thought: The food was okay...with the exception of the ribs. They were very yummy, tangy, and moist. Fall off the bone good, in the NC barbeque style. Not a saucy, lick-your-fingers type, but a good clean tangy rib. If there is one thing the Pit does well, it is the meat. The sides were okay...the coleslaw needed more sauce and more tang, the sweet potato fries were just that...fries. Hubby was served quite a lot of them...so I was stealing some of course! The sweet potato skillet cornbread? It sounded a lot better than it was. I wish it was served with honey! (I didn't ask for any though...) I was served with a maple butter that could have used more maple flavor. The bread was moist and it did taste like sweet potatoes, but it confirmed for me that the two should be kept separate. You eat cornbread to taste corn, and you have sweet potatoes for their unique flavor.

Overall: 3 out of 5 Yums!
I would really like to go back and taste more meat. There was a menu option that I did not try, and looking back on it I should have, but it had something to do with chicken, barbeque, brie cheese and what not...but I thought it would be a little bit too much food. Oh well, now I know! But I would for sure like to sample more of their meat offerings...I feel like that is the star of the restaurant. Bring on the MEAT!!

Refresh me!

So, in leu of getting back from a California trip not to long ago, I would like to share a review of a landmark in St. Helena CA.

I am not sure as to when the original location opened up, but I believe it has been a popular dining establishment for quite some time. Taylor's Refresher gained popularity in the early 2000's and it had been going strong until a change in owners in 200  . Then it became known as Gott's Roadside. The menu is pretty much the same. They are known for their burgers, shakes and fries. Chicken, seafood, salads and other options are served as well.

Some of the Awards that the Refresher as received include one of San Francisco Magazines 50 Very Best Restaurants, and it has made appearances in Food & Wine Magazine, Savor, Travel + Leisure, Gourmet and Bon Appetit to name a few. As well has being visited by Guy Fieri of Diners, Drive Ins & Dives. In 2006 it received the James Beard Foundation Medal for America's Classic Restaurant
"The James Beard Foundation America’s Classics Restaurant Award is given to a locally owned restaurant with timeless appeal, beloved for quality food that reflects the history and character of its community.  James Beard Foundation Awards have become the highest honors awarded to fine food and beverage professionals in North America."
Needless to say, when I heard we were going to Taylor's I was super excited! Upon arriving I was shocked to see that the name had been changed. Why would you do such a thing?! The other thing I noticed was that the line was wrapping around the entire patio! It was about 2ish in the afternoon, but I guess a nice, sunny, summer day brings out all the tourists to this place! Luckily the line was very quick and entirely worth the wait! (even if I only got a chance to eat the fries)

What we ordered: Wisconsin Sourdough Burger w/ mushrooms, bacon, mayo, and BBQ sauce. 1 order of sweet potato fries w/ chili spice. 1 order of garlic fries.

What we thought: The burger was good according to my hubby. He sure likes his sourdough bread, one of his favorites! The garlic fries were good as well, nothing special. They came out very green and tasted like your basic french fry covered in garlic and herbs. The sweet potato fries were by far my favorite. I am a huge fan of them and try them at most every restaurant that I go to if offered on the menu, this was the first time I had them with chili spice. Most of the time they come plain or with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on them. I liked the idea of the sweet and spicy combo. Very good!

Over all rating: 3 out of 5

I think that I would need to go back and sample some more of the menu items to make a better overall review. French fries, as good as they are, are not an adequate sampling of a restaurants menu! Hopefully, some day I will get to go back, but until then...my rating stands!

ENJOY!

Changes Changes Everywhere!

Once again, this Blog has been reformatted! I think that I like this format the best, as of right now at least. It is much more simple and clean. Not to busy. The perfect backdrop for my photography!

San Francisco City Hall

The hubby and I recently got back from a 9 day trip to California. We were visiting grandparents in the San Francisco Bay area and siblings in the Sacramento area. We had a wonderful time visiting Downtown San Fran, Napa, and other adventures!

One "Adventure" that sticks out in my mind is the obligatory trip to World's Fare Donuts! This place is very significant to my hubby because he has memories as a child going to his grandmothers house and always, repeat, always getting doughnuts from this place. Of course, one we go to CA we had to have them as well!

Hubby's Fav: Maple Long John (but will pretty much eat anything that has frosting and not cream filled)
My Fav: Glazed Old Fashioned (they also have chocolate and maple glazed) These are the little ones that "crack" open while cooking and look like, to me at least, little flying saucer doughnuts!

I highly recommend going to Worlds Fare, their doughnuts are fresh and there is a vast selection to please everybody, but I understand that doughnut stores are a dime a dozen in CA. Its just so big! But the place is so significant to us, we will stand by them through and through!

Soon I will be posting some pictures from our sparkling wine and wine tours and tastings. I will also include a review on a historic restaurant in St. Helena CA. Can you guess what it may be? If not, stay tuned!

ENJOY!

Its high time for a....

Restaurant Review!!

So, needless to say, once again, it has been a while since I have last written! I am here to inform my readers about a wonderful new restaurant in my good ol' home town of WBL, MN.

Restaurant: Manitou Station
Location: Downtown White Bear Lake, MN
Food: English Pub style food

This is the newest eating establishment in the downtown area and it is located next to the newly renovated Avalon mall. The food is down home, made from scratch goodness and news is spreading quickly of its delicious offerings! I first went to this restaurant with my parents for my mother birthday. I had the steak salad with med-well steak and a simple vinaigrette as well as seasoned pub fries. My papa had the fish and chips with mushy peas. My mother had the Rachel: turkey, sauerkraut, and swiss, along with horseradish mashed potatoes.

The salad was very good, simple, for a salad. The steak was cooked perfectly and very tender and juicy. The Rachel, according to my mother was very good as well. She noted that they sauerkraut was very mild and it was perfect on the homemade rye bread. Her mashed potatoes came out cold at first, but after they were reheated, they were very yummy, with a pleasant kick. My papa loved the fish! It was light a crispy and overly greasy. The filets were of a good size so that you could actually taste fish. The pub fries are wonderfully seasoned and thick and potato-y. My favorite is to dip them into their homemade tartar sauce which is made with dill! One of my favorites!

For dessert, since it was my mothers birthday, they served us some of their homemade bread pudding. It had a wonderful caramel sauce on it and it was wonderfully moist and warm and made perfect by the presence of vanilla ice cream.

The next time I went there I split the Avocado Chicken Ranch sandwich with my mother. I believe this also had some cheese on it. It was very good too, but there was not much of a ranch taste to it, but thats okay because I was satisfied with the avocado!

And, the most recent time I went (all three times, i went with different people) I had the Chicken Wild Rice soup. We also split the Scotch Eggs: Hard boiled egg encased in ground pork and deep-fried and served with a spicy English mustard. These were yummy! Personally I liked them plain with out the mustard, I liked the seasoning in the pork and the egg was a nice accompanying flavor. My friend had the Ale Cheddar soup, and boy oh boy was that good! I had a taste (maybe a few...) and it was wonderful, cheesy, and you can actually taste the ale/beer in the soup! Is that not why you order this type of soup? To get both the cheesiness and the wonderful flavor of beer? Both were present in this soup and they were balanced very nicely, according to my friend!

I would highly recommend this place for any meal! I believe that they do a brunch on sundays, but I am not familiar with the menu for that.

Go here...it is GOOD!! REALLY REALLY GOOD!!
Oh yeah, when they give you the bill, they bring out some of their, once again, homemade after-dinner mint truffles. They are yummy, yummy, yummy! They seem to be of the cookies and cream variety with mint tossed in, but I have yet to ask what flavor they actually are, I just know they are good! I have seriously contemplated asking if they can be ordered in bulk....but have yet to tread down that path...haha!

Hope you can make it to this wonderful restaurant and that you enjoy it as much as I did!

My new addiction...

...SUSHI!!!

So, i have been a big fan of this stuff since I first tried it about 3 or 4 years ago. I have tried everything from the basic grocery variety to the hard core restaurant style. My favorites so far are divided into two categories: grocery store, and restaurant. From the grocery store (Kowalski's & Byerly's) are the Bagel Roll, California Roll, and the Philadelphia Roll. From the restaurant side its the Rainbow Roll, and select specialty rolls like the Snow White Roll, Godzilla Roll, Minnesota Roll, and the Angel Hair Roll. But, that was until I went to Benihana Restaurant with a friend of mine...

There I was exposed to the AMAZINGNESS that is the Las Vegas Roll!!!

In it is salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. It is then tempura battered and fried. Then sliced at toped with a ring of jalapeno pepper, spicy sauce, and a dot of hot chili sauce. They look like little eyeballs, but the taste...oh the TASTE!! They are best when you get them hot! Go ahead a grab one and dip it in some soy sauce and wasabi and dig right in!! The cream cheese and avocado melt in your mouth and the batter is still warm! Oh it is such pure deliciousness! A little guilty pleasure that a gal needs every once in a while ;-)

The Las Vegas Roll

The other restaurants that I have been too include Nikki's Steakhouse and The Bento Box, both in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Sushi at Crave Restaurant

A little sushi 101 for some readers who are unfamiliar with the subject at hand. What I am talking about is Sushi, or Maki, which is usually rolled in nori (seaweed) either with rice on the inside or outside and and a filling (seafood and/or vegetables) in the center. There is also Nigiri which is hand pressed with a slice of fish/seafood over hand pressed rice, usually served in pairs. And Sashimi which are thin slices of seafood arranged artistically on a serving dish. All of these options are served with wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. Typically you mix the wasabi and the soy sauce together to a ratio of your liking. More wasabi = more kick in each bite. Wasabi is a spice that is more like a punch. It hits you and then leaves, unlike a spice like a pepper that lingers in your mouth for a while. Eye watering is a common side effect of Wasabi and for some it is the best burn ever! Really clears your nasal passages!

Anywho, I highly recommend giving the Las Vegas Roll a try if you a just diving into the wonderful world of sushi! Really, all you taste is cream cheese, fried goodness, and soy sauce! Its yummy!

Hope all is well and you like/try the recommendations!

Restaurant Review!!

We Went Out To Eat!! snicker sicker...

So, yet again, as the hubby and I do on the weekends, we treat ourselves with a new restaurant to eat at on a Friday night! This time we went to Fox & Hound Restaurant in Wilmington, NC. Its in the Mayfair Town Center so it right next to a movie theater, which of course is playing Twilight New Moon this weekend, so there was Twilight trivia. They asked one question while we were there, and we never heard the answer, odd...

But anywho, on to the food! When I look at a restaurant menu, I like to look at the salads first, to see if there is anything that spikes my mood to be healthy! lol, I really am healthy when I go out, and I workout pretty much everyday, so I deserve a treat! Well, I saw a salad that was right up my alley! It was the Napa Valley Spinach Salad, and boy was it just what I was looking for! Light, yet filling and it had a lot of different and complementing flavors in it! It contained grilled chicken, bacon, granny smith apples, red onions, mushrooms, feta cheese, cranberries, pecans, and all topped with a "Pinot Noir shallot vinaigrette" which was a little too creamy for my taste, but they did not over-dress the salad.

This salad was a find, but what my hubby had, he said, was pretty bland. The steak fries tasted like bland potatoes, fried, not very good. The service was okay, our waitress was friendly, but a little scatter-brained. It did not take long to get our food, which was good, and there were a lot of people in the place, but it is right next to a movie theater = convenient for peckish movie-goers. The overall atmosphere in the place was lacking something...it was just missing some character...like it needs to "grow up" so to speak...I was hard to put my finger on it.

Oh, yeah, they had a HUGE beer list! Lots of drafts, bottles and whatnot...

Overall I would give it 2.5 out of 5 Yums. (Basically because the salad satisfied all my cravings!)

Restaurant Review!!

~Mac's Fish and Chips~

After a day at the Minnesota State Fair with a friend, I was riding back to my car on the bus and we drove by this little dinky fish and chips stand in Roseville, MN. I leaned over and said, "I wonder if that place is any good?" My friend and I agreed that it most likely was because it always seems to go that the little hole-in-the-wall places are the best. Well, some time passed and my friend and I were sitting in a Barnes & Noble store and I was looking at Mpls/St. Paul Magazine. It had this "Best Of" section...and lo and behold, what was voted "Best Cheap Eats" none other than Mac's Fish & Chips which was the place that we passed on that fateful day. So, right then and there we decided that sooner or later we would go and eat there one day after work. Well, we made it, and let me tell you this, it is really a dive, but it is good, at least in the fish department. They also serve shrimp, scallops and clams.

What I had: Fish sandwich with tarter sauce, ketchup, and fries. My friend had the basic fish and chips basket with two rather large pieces of fish, coleslaw, and fries.

What I thought: The fish was good. It was a little on the greasy side, but we all need a little vitamin G every now and then! The tartar sauce was WONDERFUL! The coleslaw was very good. A little on the thick side, the the overall flavor was good. The chips were classic fried potatoes. Not much flavor unless you add the malt vinegar, and or salt. Or you can dip them in extra tartar sauce! On the whole I would give this place 4 out of 5 Yums. The service was quick and nice, and the prices were not bad, about 6 or so bucks for my whole meal and I was more than I could finish! The one downside is that I didn't get an lemons with the meal.

I would reccomend it just for the fish and tartar sauce!

Restaurant Review!!

This time...the place is...

Psycho Suzie's Motor Lounge

Location: Minneapolis, MN

My mother and I saw this on an episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives one weekend...and we decided to go right then and there! So, we made our way down to Mpls...and once we got there it was PAKCED!! It is a "seat yourself" type of establishment and they have both indoor and outdoor seating...and on a nice Saturday night...it was crowded...but eventually we did find a spot and hunkered down. Soon enough a waiter came around and we got menus and ordered some drinks (which are served in really cool tiki mugs or coconuts) After perusing the menu...we decided to get some Tatter Tots as an appetizer...and a sandwich and a salad for dinner. The tatter tots were awesome, nice and crisp and fresh with a nice seasoning...the salad was awesome as well. The sandwich was okay...nothing crazy special. The chips that came with it, kettle style, these were awesome...they had this amazing seasoning on them that made them so much more! They were yummy and addicting!

Here are some pics:

My drink

Fresh, crispy Tatter Tots

Salad w/ cheeses

Beef, peppers, and cheese sandwich

Seasoned kettle chips

Overall Impression: Although the place was crowded, it was fun, and lets face it...those people were there for a reason...good drinks, good food, and a good atmosphere...which it had, I just prefer a little less people...
The service was good, considering how busy it was, the waiter did what she could. She even suggested some drinks and what not. We got our food in a timely manner and it was good! I strongly recommend this restaurant! Nothing fancy...just a good ol' time!

I would give this place 4.5 out of 5 Yums!

OH!! Some good news! I got JOB!!! Yesss!

Restaurant Review!!

CRAVE

So...this was about a week or so ago. I was out with some friends and they were all craving sushi, so away we go to the nearest and what I hear was "the best" sushi joint in town. We'll see if it is worthy of that soon enough...Anywho...we went there for lunch on a Sunday so they were also serving brunch. They had basic lunch/brunch specials on the menu like Huevos Ranchero's and what not.

What I had:
(Split between 2 people)
Scallop Poppers - "Scallops baked in dynamite sauce, wrapped in salmon and topped with crunchy flakes"
Minnesota Sushi - "Cooked smoked walleye, cucumber, celery, green onion and spicy mayo wrapped inside out with capelin roe"
Crab and Avocado Flatbread - "Canadian snow crab, mozzarella, orange cream reduction"

Scallop Poppers

Crab and Avocado Flatbread

What I thought:
The Minnesota sushi was very good but it is not traditional, being that is cooked, but it had wonderful flavor both by itself and when dipped in soy sauce and wasabi. The scallop poppers were also very nice. The Flat bread was okay in the fact that I would have liked it to be a little more cheesy. The avocado was simply chunked and plopped in the middle of the flatbread and wish that it had been more like a "sauce" or incorporated as an ingredient on top like the crab. There was also a lot of crust on the edge pieces and wished that they had more cheese and toppings spread out all the way to the edge.
I also tried their brunch bloody mary and it was good. A little garlicky, but good. This is coming from someone who does not really like bloody mary's! Anywho, the prices are reflective of what you pay for, not absurd, but not cheap either.
The service was a little lacking. It might have just been the waiter, or the day, I don't know, but it was not very good. Things were forgot, an order was messed up, she did not check on us for a while, and it took forever to find her to get our check. But I have seen worse!

One the whole I would give Crave 3 out of 5 Yums.

**Since writing this review I have been to Crave at least 2 additional times. Here is what I had:

  1. Pita & Spreads Appetizer: Organic hummus, house olive tapenade, and roasted garlic bulb. This was very yummy and it has been the appetizer that I recommend to people who I know are going there. It is rather large, so its a good bet for a good sized group, or it can be a meal on its own!
  2. Crinkle-Cut Fries. They were not listed on the menu when I went, but I asked if they had any. The waiter said yes. Now they are listed on the menu, and I recommend getting them. They are hand cut crinkle fries. Crunchy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside. Very, very good!

Righteous Restaurant Review #1

Buongiorno!

Its a new day and time for a new theme! That's right its time for a...Righteous Restaurant Review!! Da da ta da!!

On the menu today is: DeNoia's Pizzeria in Snead's Ferry, North Carolina. They serve your basic New York style pizza and the other various items that you would expects to find in a pizzeria like: calzones, cheese sticks, garlic knots, pasta, salads, sandwiches, Stromboli, and subs. You can buy their pizza by the slice or a whole pie.

What we ordered: A large 18'' pizza half-and-half. My half was pineapple, Canadian bacon, and onions, and the hubby's was pepperoni. We also got an order of garlic knots. Total price about $17.00.

What we thought: The pizza was HUGE!! 18-inches! that's a lot of pie! My side was good, nothing special though...I wish that there had been some sort of a "kick" or "wow factor" to the pizza, but it was just some really good classic NY pizza in North Carolina. I am assuming that the pepperoni was good as well considering that the hubby at his half! Here are some pictures for your viewing delight!!

Look at those amazing ingredients! Yummy!

The sauce on this pizza was very good! Not to much but not to little! Yummy again!

Yummy Meter: 4 out of 5 Yums!

**Since writing this review, the Hubby and I have tried many more things from this restaurant, including:

  1. Grilled chicken and onion calzone
  2. Canadian bacon calzone
  3. Grilled chicken, onions, peppers, mushrooms, and hot peppers pizza
  4. Plain cheese pizza
  5. Garlic knots
  6. Garlic pizza fries
There are probably a few that I cannot remember as of right now. The draw to this place is that it is easy, close, delivers, and is NOT a dominoes...I dislike chain restaurants. DeNoia's is by far a much better place. I would recommend picking up the pizza, because delivery can leave you with a luke warm pie...not good!  (Update 9/15/10)
